Next time Ill order pizza

     So its Saturday night, the boyfriend is busy studying for finals, and I am hungry. So I decided to make something from my Rachel Ray Look and Cook book. 9/10 a Rachel Ray recipe is great so it was a safe gamble. Flipping through the book backwards (see the recipes you don't usually get to cause you found something better at the beginning of the book) I decide on Pork Chops with Balsamic Strawberry salad and Orzo. It looked like this:

Some words about this recipe.

     Its very complicated. I chose this recipe cause I already had orzo and wanted strawberries. So while chopping the strawberries the balsamic vinegar when from liquid, to syrup to a tar looking substance. I was able to salvage a lot of the balsamic though I am pretty sure it did not taste quite as good as it was supposed to. 

     Next the orzo. First my measuring cup spilled dumping orzo everywhere, luckily I still had enough not on the floor for the recipe. I think I overcooked it cause I was focus on the rest of the recipe. It was salvaged because you mix it with butter, and season with nutmeg and cinnamon. It gave an interesting flavor and saved the dish if that was possible. 

     I have never had prosciutto. Tastes sorta like bacon and sorta like ham. Its pretty good but it was more a garnish in this dish than a main flavor. The pork is simply seasoned with salt and pepper and turned out okay. My only complaint is that you are supposed to use bone in, so on top of the already challenging task of cutting the fat off the meat (someday I will buy better knives) but you also have to cut around the awkward shaped bone. 

   The dog ate the pork bones out of the trash. I had to sweep the kitchen cause of the orzo spill. And then came the moment of truth. After dirtying 4 pans and burning myself twice. I got to eat the meal.  It was okay but next time I should just order the pizza.  Luckily I had enough foresight to buy a bottle of wine so the night won't be a total lost.

Spring Time

Good Morning Blog,
     Its been awhile. Not much profound has happed in a few weeks. Its just been me and Boom hanging out. I'd say he is living the easy life these days. Laying around my house and getting petted by everyone who comes over. He pushed the pillows into a little craddle for himself one morning. Funny puppy.

I love spring time in Columbus mostly because of this tree. I am unsure what its called but its is my absolute favorite. Its pretty, pink, large, and screams spring time. I want one of these at my future house. The sad part is all the flowers bloom and then the flowers fall off all by May, so the pretty-ness doesn't last long.

 This is my boyfriend Alex (light blue) and my little brother Blaine (not light blue) standing in front of the little church we went to for easter sunday. Its a 2 minute walk from Alex's house. Alex's mom told me when they first starting going there it did not even have running water. A cute little methodist church that could not hold more than 50 people (give or take). Very nice easter Sunday.

 Unfortunately my parents were in Canada for Easter Sunday so as you may have guessed we spent easter at Alex's family's house. Its was a good day all things considered and was polished off with this chocolate heaven. Chocolate ganache frosting over chocolate cake with a layer of chocolate mouse and a layer of vanilla ice cream with sprinkles and jelly beans. I wanted to take it home with me.

 This is all that has really happened as of late. Just a lot of candy, procrastinating and walking the dog. I have never been so aware of my homes lawn care in my life (I have never walked around outside this much).

First 48 hrs with Boomer

First night: Boomer whined and paced around my room from 2:30am (i walked him at 3am) until 8 am (walked him at 7). When left alone downstairs he barked at nothing and knocked things off shelves and laid on the couch intently staring at the door. 

First morning: I took him on a run...he did pretty well staying with me and loved being outside. 

Second night: Up at 4am but I had ear plugs this time (walked at 7:15am).

Second morning: If i have to be outside i may as well get a work out in so running again

Second Evening...

In case you can't tell these are boomer's food and water bowls. Notice the food bowl is EMPTY! he ate two bowls of food. This is big for him since generally when he is upset he doesn't eat so he must be settling down since he ate.

Now he full and sleeping on my bed voluntarily in my room! usually I have to force him up here. Hopefully he sleeps through the night tonight. I really need to teach him to sleep in.

I'm learning too. For example: things boomer hates:
- loud cars, trucks (garbage and regular), and motorcycles
- doors shutting
- squirrels

sample socks

Little tiny socks. Not for a little tiny person. They are really for a sample person.  I am trying a new technique for one of my favorite past times...knitting socks. Before attempting a real pattern the author recommends doing tiny sample socks to learn the method. These are two-at-a-time toe up. Which is pretty cool for several reason.
1) They are finished at the same time
2) Any decisions made for one sock can be done for the other sock right then and there so there is no confusion when you start the other (cause you don't have to start the other, its already done).
3) I suck at the kitchener stitch so now I don't have to do it .
4) Really the part that requires focus is the toe, gussets and heel and those are the parts you do first now so your more likely to finish the hard parts before you run out of momentum and your hand hurts.

I love making socks and really don't like wearing them so being able to blog my masterpieces will be fun since no one ever gets to see them otherwise.

Spring Break

With lots of time on my hands I have been eager to cook.
Credit to Rachel Ray's cookbook "look and cook" = Lemon Risotto and Orange Balsamic Glazed Chicken

I made these recipes and I must say even as leftovers it is fantastic. I felt so cool making the risotto because it is complex to make and tastes amazing. So many flavors and such depth. Amazing.

Spring break is for relaxing and that is what I am doing lots of. Last spring break ever. Sorta makes me nervous for my new job but ill leave those worries for future me to deal with. Right now all that matters is enjoying my time.
